The award was initiated by the Civil College Foundation's Roma community organizers to honor and publicly recognize women who work tirelessly to improve their surroundings, whether by supporting disadvantaged groups or standing up against environmentally destructive projects. Numerous inspiring women dedicated to creating a better world have been nominated.
