Description of the program:On October 30th at 5:00 PM, we will present the play Cannibals at Napház, directed by Boda-Novy Emília, a Balogh Paci scholarship artist. This unique production by Independent Theater Hungary unveils a little-known tragedy from Hungarian history.
In 1782, in Hont County, a butcher disappeared without a trace. Although his body was never found, this incident led to the brutal persecution of hundreds of Roma individuals. Through torture-extracted confessions, 131 people were convicted, with 41 executed publicly by hanging, beheading, or breaking on the wheel. Survivors were sentenced to forced labor, and their children were taken and placed in orphanages or with peasant families. Cannibals serves as a powerful memorial to this horrific event.
